Katie Fforde award for Mainstream Fiction

  • 1st prize £100 + 4 night writing retreat at Hawkwood College, 2nd prize £75, 3rd prize £50
  • Synopsis of up to 200 words plus excerpt of up to 3000 words
  • Entry fee: £5
  • Open to writers in Gloucestershire, UK.

All Competition Rules:

  1. Entries for the Stroud Book Festival Poetry and Flash Fiction Prizes are open internationally. Entries for the Stroud Book Festival Mainstream Fiction Prize is open to writers in Gloucestershire.
  2. Entries must be in English, your own unaided work, and not a translation of another writer.
  3. Entries must not have been previously broadcast, published or self-published, in print or online, or have won a prize in another competition.
  4. The maximum length of any entry must be: Flash Fiction: 500 words Novel: 200 word synopsis, plus 3000 words Poetry: 40 lines
  5. Your name and address must not appear on the pieces entered, nor any other marks that could identify you.
  6. Online entry is via the Stroud Book Festival website stroudbookfestival.org.uk/competition
  7. Postal entries must be typed or written clearly in black, double spaced on white A4 paper, and on one side of the paper only. For postal entries, send the form with your competition entries to: The Old Police Station, Beeches Green, Stroud, GL5 4BJ
  8. Do not staple multiple pages. If necessary, use a paperclip.
  9. Entry fees must be in UK currency, and cheques/postal orders payable to Stroud Book Festival. Payment can also be made online through PayPal. Contest entry fees cannot be returned.
  10. The opening date for entries is 1 June 2019. The closing date for all entries is 22 September 2019. Winners will be notified by 20 October 2019.
  11. Copyright remains with the authors, but we reserve the right to publish the winning entries for a year after the announcement. We also reserve the right to use any sound or video recordings of work for promotional use.
  12. Winners will be listed on the Stroud Book Festival website.
  13. We are unable to return entries, so please don’t send your only copy. We will not enter into any correspondence about entries, or make changes to entries received. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
  14. Entries may be shortlisted by a panel of local authors and industry professionals before final judging by appointed judge.
  15. All decisions made by the judges regarding the winners are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  16. Should the named judge be unable to proceed in any category, we aim to find an alternative judge of equivalent standing as an author/poet.
  17. Prizes may be withheld or altered if we receive no outstanding entries, or insufficient entries.
  18. The prize-giving will take place at Stroud Book Festival 2019. Please note that we cannot cover travel expenses for prize-winners.
  19. By submitting, you are agreeing to all contest rules. Contest rules are subject to change.

Entry fees will go towards producing the Stroud Book Festival which is a Community Interest Company with charitable aims.
