Lansdown Hall
Tickets £12 concs £10: Available from Subscription Rooms

Calling all reading groups, book shops, libraries and indeed all readers across Gloucestershire! Our simple aim is to get as many people as possible reading the same book at the same time, culminating in a talk by the author at Stroud Book Festival.

This year’s choice for THE BIG READ is the award-winning The Snow Geese by bestselling author William Fiennes. A mesmerising story of adventure and insight – inspired by the migratory patterns of the million-strong flocks of snow geese, as the author follows them on their spring flight from Texas Arizona, thousands of miles north to breeding grounds on the Arctic Tundra.

This highly descriptive book captures their journey and, importantly, his own with wisdom, humility and endless curiosity. A meditation on freedom of movement, on seeing the world anew, and on the joy of returning, indefinably changed.

We are working with libraries, book shops, reading groups, schools across Gloucestershire – to encourage readers to buy, borrow, read, enjoy, engage and discuss this book. We’re on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, where we’ll actively encourage conversation. Please let us know what you think! #BIGREADSBF2017

And then join William Fiennes and fellow readers to discuss this widely acclaimed book at our headline event at the Stroud Book Festival.

This event will be chaired by Jane Bailey.

The Big Read is sponsored by Wycliffe College
