Max Porter & Alula Down
20.00 - 21.00: Saturday 9th November
Lansdown Hall
Tickets: £10. Available from Stroud Subscription Rooms

Join us for a spell-binding live performance about art, myth, and the extraordinary strangeness of everyday life, by one of the most exciting literary fiction talents to emerge in recent years.

Max Porter is the author of two novels: “Grief is the Thing With Feathers” which won the 2016 International Dylan Thomas Prize; and “Lanny”, which was long-listed for the 2019 Booker Prize and is soon to be a film, starring and produced by Rachel Weisz.

Max will treat us to a captivating dramatic reading from “Lanny”, a strange and wonderful story about a family whose village is peopled by the living and the dead, and about Lanny, a boy with a gift for friendship and the traces of enchantment he leaves in the closely woven lives around him.

The performance will be accompanied by a specially commissioned score from acclaimed Herefordshire folk duo, Alula Down, whose work is an experiment in folk song and minimalism, using voice and instruments made of wood and reeds.
