HOW TO ARGUE WITH A RACIST with Adam Rutherford
In association with: Stroud Against Racism
Race is real because we perceive it, and racism is real because we enact it. But now ‘science’ is increasingly being used in a way that strengthens racist ideologies, as part of the public discourse on politics, migration, education, sport and intelligence. The result is that stereotypes and myths about race are expressed not only by racists but also by otherwise well-intentioned people whose experience and cultural baggage steer them towards views that are not supported by the modern study of human genetics.
So who better to dispel such prevailing myths and stereotypes than geneticist, writer and broadcaster Dr Adam Rutherford, who is himself of dual heritage. Drawing on the scientific and historical knowledge he uses to devastating effect in his book “How to Argue With a Racist”, he will show us the way to do just that.
