He wrote one of the biggest hits of our age in ‘about an hour’ in his childhood bedroom. He lived through the AIDS crisis and one of the most homophobic periods of British history and yet when he finally came out, he did so boldly and unapologetically. He was the poppiest of pop stars but would go on TV to denounce the Iraq War. And ten years after his death in December 2016, George Michael is still everywhere.

Writer and journalist Sathnam Sanghera has revered the music of George Michael since he was a boy. His book Tonight the Music Seems So Loud is an elegiac yet also poptastically enjoyable exploration of George’s life, times and creativity.

We welcome Sathnam for an hour of pop music heaven in which we’ll discuss the connection between music and politics, what secrecy does to the soul, and how fame rots the sense of self. But we’ll also capture the joy and creativity of George Michael in all his supremely talented, musical glory.
