Laurie Lee lives on

600 x 400 red - 1

Dear Festival Friends

We can’t quite believe it but this year’s Stroud Book Festival – 6-10 November – is now a little under five months away.

Since we were last in touch, the Festival team has been hard at work, planning another exciting programme of events for all ages. We’ll be announcing our first headline events early next month; in the meantime, please make sure the dates are inked in your diary!

A reminder that entries for this year’s Laurie Lee Prize for Writing are now open. With two categories once again this year, one for a young writer aged between 16-20 years, please spread the word to anyone you know who might be interested, or even send in an entry yourself. The closing date is Wednesday 31 July 2024. More information can be found here.

Meanwhile, you may like to know that there’s a treat in store for all Laurie Lee devotees at Painswick Rococo Gardens on Saturday 22 June. Red Sky at Sunrise: Laurie Lee in Words & Music is a special midsummer outdoor event celebrating our local hero, poet and novelist. Starring Anton Lesser and Orchestra of the Swan, and currently on a national tour, Red Sky at Sunrise follows Lee through his much-loved “Cider with Rosie” trilogy. Devised as a show by Judy Reaves, the text by Laurie Lee has been adapted by Deirdre Shields, and the performance comes to Painswick for two shows only (3.30pm & 7.30pm), following sell-out performances at the RSC, Oxford, and Salisbury International Arts Festival.
